Double Check Translations is registered as a sworn translator in the Dutch Register of Sworn Translators and Interpreters under no. 2711

Since being sworn in at the District Court of Maastricht in 2009, I have also been specialising in sworn translations of e.g. diplomas, certificates and various types of legal documents. Through a combination of training and practice, I continue to develop my knowledge and skills in this field.

What is a sworn translator / sworn translation?

A sworn translator has been officially sworn in by the court and is authorised to produce sworn translations. A sworn translation is an official translation that is signed and stamped by a sworn translator. It is accompanied by a statement from the translator testifying that the translation is truthful and accurate.

When do I need a sworn translation?

Sworn translations are usually required for documents used for formal procedures, including extracts from public registers, certificates of birth/death/marriage, and other official documents such as degree certificates, diplomas and notarial papers.

Some authorities require the signature of a sworn translator to be authenticated through what is known as a signature authentication certificate, or an apostille. The apostille is issued by the registrar of the district court where the translator’s signature was deposited.

For use in countries that have not signed the Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents, the full legalisation procedure for translations has to be completed. This procedure is far more complex than the procedure described above, because the document will also have to be presented to the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the consulate of the country in question.
